Digitization

Digitization

In recent years, the Historical Archive of Babeș-Bolyai University has been implementing a large-scale project to digitize its documentary heritage. This initiative is part of a general trend toward converting physical documents into electronic format, followed by institutions that preserve collections of cultural and scientific value.

Purpose:

The digitization process facilitates access for a broad public to primary sources, often unpublished, which are of significant importance in reconstructing the past. It enables researchers from Romania and abroad to consult archival material remotely. At the same time, it ensures that the original documents are kept in optimal conditions, protecting them from wear and tear caused by multiple interactions.

Objectives:

  1. To create a digital archive that will include documentary collections of both historical and practical (administrative) value
  2. To build databases containing information about the academic community of Babeș-Bolyai University and its predecessor institutions (students, professors, researchers, administrative staff, etc.)

Specific activities:

  • Archival processing (sorting, numbering, and inventorying) of the collections to be digitized
  • Converting documents from analog to digital format
  • Entering digitized documents and related metadata into a database using the XeroxDocuShare application

Partners:

The following entities support the digitization activities carried out by the Historical Archive of Babeș-Bolyai University:

  • Xerox Romania and Roxer Group
  • BBU Information Technology and Communications Department
