Research project: Foreign Students in Romania

An important research project initiated at the University Archive focuses on the presence of international students in Romania.

In the first stage, researchers Ioana-Mihaela Bonda and Cecilia Cârja, drawing on some of the rich documentary material preserved in our institution, published an analytical paper on young people from abroad who studied at Babeș-Bolyai University between 1959 and 1989.

Subsequently, the same authors also edited a volume of documents. The selected and published regulations, decrees, and instructions concerned the mobility of international students who came to all higher education institutions in Romania, not just to those in Cluj, during the communist period.

The project resulted in the publication of the following works:

Studenți străini în România comunistă. Regulamente, ordine, instrucțiuni[Foreign Students in Communist Romania. Regulations, Orders, Instructions], edited by Ioana-Mihaela Bonda and Cecilia Cârja, Cluj-Napoca: Editura Argonaut / Mega, 2023.
